The rivalry between the Independent and Public School Old Boys’ and the UK Armed Forces was reignited on Sunday, 6th October, as the teams took to the courts at Aldershot Tennis Centre, the proud home of Army Tennis. The afternoon unfolded on the indoor acrylic courts, where three pairs from each side battled through a series of pro sets (first to 8 games, with a tiebreak at 7-7) in a round-robin format. The fixture once again lived up to its storied reputation, delivering a blend of spirited competition, mutual respect, and plenty of wisecracks.
The drama reached fever pitch as the Armed Forces narrowly secured a hard-fought 5-4 victory, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in a 11-9 match tiebreak that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Following the on-court heroics, both teams came together to share a well-deserved rationed curry supper and a few celebratory beers, swapping stories and savoring the highlights of the day.
Special shoutout goes to iPubs debutant Oli Nunn, who was unbeaten throughout the fixture alongside seasoned iPubs player Jamie Muirhead.
